Black Pepper Native to the forests of the Western Ghats and made famous by the farmers in Coorg have zealously adopted it. The Coorg forests, providing the same microclimate that the pepper vine thrives in, became home to this creeper, which took easily to the shade plants that already existed in the Coffee plantations. Black pepper (Piper nigrum L.) (Family: Piperaceae) is a perennial vine grown for its berries extensively used as spice and in medicine. India is one of the major producer, consumer and exporter of black pepper in the world.
The black pepper is subjected to post harvest processing operations which involves threshing, blanching, drying, cleaning, grading and packaging to maintain the quality.
